#1- Reishi mushrooms

Reishi mushrooms are native to parts of Asia that include China, Korea, and Japan. They grow above ground and produce a visible fruiting body, along with connective strands call mycelium, which are use to make herbal medicines, tinctures, teas, powders, or extracts.

#7. Apricot seed kernels

An apricot kernel is a single seed found inside the stone of an apricot. They look similar in appearance to a small almond. Fresh apricot kernels are white. The skin becomes light brown when dried out.

Apricot seeds contain amygdalin, that is the compound that makes them so bitter and coincidentally is the compound that may kill cancer cells as well. Amygdalin It is a compound found in many foods. Over 1,200 plants have some amount of amygdalin in them. Apricot seeds happen to have the highest amount of amygdalin when compared to other foods.

There are less than 100 documented studies involving Laetrile or amygdalin. The results have been mixed. Researchers have various hypotheses about how amygdalin actually works to kill cancer cells.   

Since 2000, there have been multiple new studies that support the theory that amygdalin induces cancer cell apoptosis (death). A study published in the British Journal of Cancer, conduct by the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Complutense University in Madrid, determined that Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and other cannabinoids inhibit tumour growth. They responsible for the first clinical study aimed at assessing cannabinoid antitumoral action. Cannabinoid delivery was safe and was achieved with zero psychoactive effects. THC was found to decrease tumour cells in two out of the nine patients.

Another study published in the American Journal of Cancer determined that cannabinoid receptors are expressed in human pancreatic tumour cell lines and tumour biopsies at much higher levels than in normal pancreatic tissue. Results showed that cannabinoid administration induced apoptosis. They also reduced the growth of tumour cells, and inhibited the spreading of pancreatic tumour cells.

 

#9. Turmeric

Turmeric is a perennial plant native to Southeast Asia, China and India. The ability of turmeric to fight cancer has been extensively researched. In fact, over 1500 published studies show that curcumin, turmeric’s active ingredient, is an effective treatment for over 100 different types of cancer.

In a 2015 study published in Cancer Letters, curcumin was tested in conjunction with the chemotherapy drugs 5-fluorouracil and oxaliplatin against colorectal cancer. Adding curcumin to the regime improved the efficacy of the drugs – the curcumin inhibits cancer cell growth and even increased apoptosis, or cancer cell suicide.

#10. Leafy Green Vegetables

Leafy greens of all kinds — nutritious spinach, kale, collard greens, romaine, arugula salad, watercress, etc. — are rich in antioxidants that combat cancer, including vitamin C and beta-carotene (a type of vitamin A).

Spinach is a leafy green that is well known for its ability to fight cancer. It is a rich source of lutein, an antioxidant that plays a key role in protecting against cancer. In addition, zeaxanthin and carotenoids in spinach protect against free radical damage. Beta-carotene, vitamin A, folic acid and fiber in spinach also play an important role in cancer prevention.

Regular consumption of this dark green leafy vegetable can protect against cancer of the mouth, ovary, lung, endometrium, colon, esophagus and stomach. Eat 1 cup of spinach a couple of times a week. Add it to your salad, soup, smoothie or mixed vegetable juice. Another Leafy green know it for its ability to fight cancer is kale. A member of the cruciferous vegetable class, kale contain natural antiangiogenic molecules like brassinin, indole-3-carbinol, quercetin, lutein, sulforaphane, and kaempferol. Kale is actually loaded with compounds that are believed to have protective effects against cancer. This includes sulforaphane, a substance that has been shown to help fight the formation of cancer at the molecular level. A study showed a 64 percent inverse association between the likelihood of developing cancer and the consumption of kale and similar vegetables.

#11. Healthy Unrefined Oils

Unrefined oils are minimal heat process oils that have not been bleach or deodorize after extraction. Under the unrefined umbrella you have “raw”/”pure” or “virgin” and “extra virgin” oils which indicates how many times the vegetable was pressed to get the oil out and that they have not been refined. Flax Seeds Oil.

Flaxseeds are a rich source of nutrients, such as manganese, vitamin B-1, and omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids prevent cancerous cells from latching onto healthy cells. Then, if cancerous tumors attempt to form, the lignans contained in flaxseed stop the formation of new blood supply (anti-angiogenesis) that feeds tumor growth. So, in other words, they starve the tumor of their supply of oxygen and nutrients. So, if cancer cells can’t get these basic requirements, they are unable to multiply and spread.

A study published in the Journal of Clinical Cancer Research discovered that consuming flax seeds may decrease the risk of breast cancer. So, the three lignans in flaxseeds can convert by intestinal bacteria into enterolactone and enterodiol which naturally balance hormones which may be the reason flax seeds reduce the risk of breast cancer. Also, another study published in the Journal of Nutrition found that the lignans in flaxseeds may also reduce the risk of endometrial and ovarian cancer.

Budwig Protocol

The Budwig Protocol, a well known Alternative Cancer Treatment uses Flaxseeds Oil as one of their main components. The Budwig diet, also called the flaxseed diet, is an alternative health treatment that uses a mix of two organic foods – flaxseed oil and cottage cheese; to treat all forms of cancer and other diseases and conditions such as fibromyalgia; multiple sclerosis, heart disease, arthritis, asthma, acne, diabetes, high blood pressure, psoriasis and cancer.

According to a study published in the journal Cancer Research, the lauric acid in coconut oil has anti-cancer properties. So, lauric acid constitutes about 50% of coconut oil, and researchers at the University of Adelaide discovered that it completely exterminated more than 90% of colon cancer cells after just two days of treatment in a colon cancer cell line in vitro. According to the American Society for Nutrition, clinical studies have shown that the fats found in coconut oil (medium-chain fatty acids) “may be useful in treating and preventing diseases such as osteoporosis, virus-related diseases (mononucleosis, hepatitis C, herpes, etc.), gallbladder disease, Crohn’s disease and cancer.” Coconut oil has been shown to help decrease the harmful side effects of chemotherapy, and improve the quality of life for cancer patients.

Pomegranate seeds, the edible insides of the pomegranate, are little ruby red bursts of sweet and tart deliciousness that pack a seriously big punch of health benefits. 

Multiple studies show that pomegranate extracts inhibit the proliferation of breast cancer cells and even stimulate the programmed cell death of breast cancer cells. Pomegranate seed oil contains punicic acid, an omega-5 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid that has been shown to inhibit breast cancer proliferation.


Further research suggests that drinking pomegranate juice may also slow the growth of prostate cancer, the leading cancer for men in the U.S. In a study of male subjects with recurrent prostate cancer and rising prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, researchers found that taking pomegranate juice extract significantly slowed the rate at which PSA was rising. Other studies have found that certain compounds in pomegranate juice show potent antitumorigenic effects and inhibited the growth of prostate cancer cells in the laboratory.

Research shows that pomegranates can help prevent or treat various disease risk factors, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, oxidative stress, hyperglycemia and inflammation. Pomegranates have even been shown to provide anticarcinogenic effects. That’s right, pomegranate seeds can prevent and treat certain forms of cancer!

 

#13. Walnuts

Walnuts have always been considered as ‘Brain Food’, perhaps because the surface structure of the walnut has a crinkly appearance like that of the brain. So, due to this reason, they have been considered as a symbol of intelligence, leading to the belief that they actually increase one’s intellect.

Walnuts are a great cancer fighting foods that contain a good amount of polyphenols and phytochemicals that have antioxidant properties. Also, they are  rich in anti-cancer compounds, such as ellagitannins, gamma-tocopherol, and alpha-linolenic acid. Several published studies have identified walnuts as bearing unique cancer-fighting qualities. So, for example, researchers at UC Davis and other institutions have uncovered that diets rich in whole walnuts, or even walnut oil, have the ability to slow prostate cancer growth in mice.

In other studies, researchers determined that two handfuls of walnuts each day could cut in half the risk of breast cancer and tumor growth. Also, it is believed that walnuts can shrink levels of the hormone IGF-1, known to play a key role in development of both prostate and breast cancer. #14. Grapes

According to a 2002 study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, musk grape polyphenols exhibit anti cancer properties. In addition, a 2009 study published in the Journal of Nutrition concluded that both grapes and grape products are excellent sources of various anticancer agents.

Researchers at the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, tested the impact of grape seed extract in colorectal cancer cell lines at several stages of the disease. They noted an increase in a number of the anticancer mechanisms found within grape seed extract with increasing cancer stages. 

A similar study published earlier in the journal Carcinogenesis found that in both cell lines and mouse models, grape seed extract killed head and neck squamous cell carcinoma cells, without harming nearby healthy cells. 

A study published later, in January 2013, in the journal Nutrition and Cancer, found that grape seed extract was also effective in treating prostate cancers, while a January 2014 published study showed grape seed extract to be effective against certain types of lung cancer.

Eat a cup of grapes daily. If you prefer to take the grape seed extract, consult your doctor to get the correct dose. It is very important to consume them organic as this is one of the fruits with the highest amount of chemicals used in its cultivation.

 

#15. Moringa

Moringa is a naturally grown plant native to India, but is cultivate in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. The Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention in 2003 published a study in which researchers examined skin tumor prevention following ingestion of moringa seedpod extracts in mice. Another study published in 2007 and available through the National Institute of Health indicates that Moringa oleifera supplements may serve a valuable purpose in combating epithelial ovarian cancer cells while minimizing the negative effects commonly experienced by patients undergoing other types of chemical treatments for the disease

#16- Soursop

Soursop is abundant in folate, niacin, thiamin, vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and fiber. This tasty fruit is used in holistic medicine to treat an upset stomach; coughs, asthmatic symptoms, skin conditions, gout, fever and a cancer fighting foods.  

In 2011, the journal Nutrition and Cancer revealed highly promising research on graviola and breast cancer. Researchers found that graviola fruit extract (GFE) suppressed expression of a breast-cancer causing oncogene; known as epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in animal models. According to the researchers; “a 5-wk dietary treatment of GFE (200 mg/kg diet) significantly reduced the protein expression of EGFR in breast tumors by 56%…. Overall, dietary GFE inhibited tumor growth, as measured by wet weight, by 32%.”

Another study performed by a cancer research team at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, shows that graviola kills pancreatic cancer cells by inhibiting cellular metabolism. This cancer tumor-fighting ability has been confirmed both in test tubes and in live subjects.

Graviola works by inhibiting numerous signaling pathways that manage how pancreatic cancer cells grow, how long they live, and how the cancer tumors spread within the host. By altering these parameters, the rate of new cancer cell growth and spread of the disease slowed significantly.

Baking Soda

Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3), commonly known as baking soda, is a natural substance used for a variety of household baking and cleaning purposes. However, a research has shown that it is a powerful cancer fighting foods and it is a tool in identifying and stabilizing cancer growth as well.

Taking in sodium bicarbonate orally has been shown to raise the pH of tumors and reduce the formation of spontaneous metastases in mouse models with metastatic breast cancer. It also reduced the rate of lymph node involvement and reduced the chances of spread to the liver.



Researchers in this field have made the reasonable assumption that increasing systemic concentrations of pH buffers such as sodium bicarbonate would reduce intratumoral and peritumoral acidosis. In mouse models they have also found that the reduction of tumor acid concentrations reduces tumor growth and invasion without altering the pH of blood or other tissues.

Additionally, it is also known that tumor acidosis creates chemoresistance to certain chemotherapy drugs such as doxorubicin and paclitaxel. So, if one had an acidic tumor and wanted to use the standard chemotherapy route using baking soda to optimize pH levels would only make the chemotherapy more effective.

 

Water without Fluoride

There are two types of fluoride: calcium fluoride and sodium fluoride. When taken in excess, both types can be harmful to health. Calcium fluoride is found naturally in underground waters sources. In sufficient concentrations, it can actually weaken bones and teeth rather than protecting them. However, it is less toxic and damaging to health than its counterpart.

Sodium fluoride is much more insidious. Created as a synthetic waste byproduct from the fertilizer, aluminum and nuclear industries, this type of fluoride is added to many public water supplies. #6. Cruciferous Vegetables

#7. Apricot seeds kernels

  • Apricot seeds contain amygdalin; that is the compound that makes them so bitter and coincidentally is the compound that may kill cancer cells as well.

– Baking Soda

  • Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3); commonly known as baking soda, is a natural substance use for a variety of household baking and cleaning purposes. However, a research has shown that it is a powerful tool in identifying and stabilizing cancer growth as well.
  • Taking in sodium bicarbonate orally show; to raise the pH of tumors and reduce the formation of spontaneous metastases in mouse models with metastatic breast cancer. (see full study)

– Water without Fluoride

  • There are two types of fluoride: calcium fluoride and sodium fluoride. Calcium fluoride is find naturally in underground waters sources. So, in sufficient concentrations, it can actually weaken bones and teeth rather than protecting them.

Created as a synthetic waste byproduct from the fertilizer, aluminum and nuclear industries; so, this type of fluoride is add to many public water supplies. ”Every day, when you take your head out of the pillow, you have all you need” This says Neale Donald Walsch, the author of the book “Conversations with God” in the documentary E-motion. Neale, together with several other emotion experts share their knowledge on what emotions are, how they function and as well give practical advices on how to start living more in health and in harmony with ourselves and the world around us. The documentary gives us a lot of information as well as tools for positive change and inspires to pay attention, take responsibility and act according to our own bodies and minds in order to start living a true fulfilled life.

Many of us are living our lives in the external world and are striving for material thing s and comfort. The importance of life many times  seems to be to get a job, money, house, car, children, more money, to get old, sick and die and many times to struggle a lot along the way. We might be dealing with negative thoughts, emotions and/or diseases and are willing to see what else life has to offer beyond that. If we start looking for answers we might look for them on the outside of ourselves instead of taking time to see what we already have for tools inside of us that we can start to use today.

One of the experts, Dr Darren Weissman, explains the importance of how the mind works with its conscious and subconscious mind. He describes the two as an iceberg with the visible part of the iceberg being the conscious mind and the much bigger part and base underneath being the subconscious. The subconscious mind registers everything that has ever happened to us since day zero in our existence and saves all that information in our bodies. When we open up for the possibility of communicating with the subconscious mind- that is when change and health can start to happen. Don Tolman from Fasting Wholefoods mention that there are not thousands of diseases like we are told today, but just one- which we can learn how to deal with.

Because of more than ten experts are sharing their unique knowledge and tips based on science as well as experiences, the documentary can reach its beautiful message of life fulfillment to anyone who is interested in making some kind of positive change with themselves.

I am willing to see beyond the, for me, silly effects that sometimes pops up while the experts are talking as well as some commercial when the actors of the story are buying a diamond necklace in the end, to really take in all the great lessons and messages the experts are communicating with the audience. It surprised me how simple tools there actually are to start using today and how much more there is to learn about ourselves and our functions to be able to live this short life we have been given to the very fullest. I would recommend anyone with the slightest interest in the theme to listen carefully and see what can be useful for him/her.

The experts promise that this journey of life do has a unique purpose for everyone and can be lived in total health and with a lot of joy and love. I promised myself some changes from watching the documentary, I have my list of what I want to know more about and are trying to take in the practice that; every day when I take my head out of the pillow, I have everything I need.

What causes cancer? There are more than 100 different types of cancer, each of which has particular causes and characteristics, with a different evolution, prognosis and treatment.

Advances in the early diagnosis of several of these tumors, combined with the improvement of oncological treatments and natural treatments; have made possible that in recent years to reduced the mortality rate for this disease in many countries considerably. What Causes Cancer?

Certain factors are capable of causing cancer in a percentage of individuals exposed to them. These include inheritance, chemicals, ionizing radiations, infections or viruses, and traumas. The researchers study how these different factors can interact in a multifactorial and sequential way to produce malignant tumors. So, the cancer is, in essence, a genetic process.

#1- Heritage

The first of the reasons that causes cancer in this top is heritage. It is estimate that 5% to 10% of cancers have a hereditary origin. Some forms of cancer are more common in some families: breast cancer is an example of this. Colon cancer is more common in families with a tendency to develop colon polyps. One form of retinoblastoma only appears when a specific gene is absent. These genes, called tumor suppressor genes or antioncogenes, prevent normal cell replication. Its absence eliminates the normal control of cell multiplication. In some hereditary disorders, the chromosomes have an intrinsic fragility; these processes carry a high risk of cancer.

A research published in 2014 found that an abnormal PALB2 gene increases breast cancer risk 5 to 9 times higher than average, almost as high as an abnormal BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene. Women with an abnormal PALB2 gene have a 33% to 58% lifetime risk of developing breast cancer. In comparison, women with an abnormal BRCA1 gene have a 50% to 70% risk of developing breast cancer by age 70. Women with an abnormal BRCA2 gene have a 40% to 60% risk of developing breast cancer by age 70.

 #2- Chemical substances

Coal tar and its derivatives are highly carcinogenic. Their vapors in some industries are associated with the high incidence of lung cancer among workers. It is now known that benzo(a)pyrene, a chemical found in coal, causes cancer. An example of this is skin cancer in people whose jobs are related to the burning of coal.

Arsenic is associated with lung cancer, as workers in copper and cobalt mines; so, foundries and factories of insecticides have an incidence of this type of cancer greater than normal. Also, in workers in the industries related to asbestos, the incidence is up to 10 times more than normal.

A substance that is product of  the fungus Aspergillus flavus, (aflatoxin), which contaminates poorly preserved foods, causes liver cancer in some animals. It has been found that in countries where mold contamination is common, the incidence of liver and stomach cancer is high.

– Cigarette

The cigarette is another carcinogen, it has been determined that death from lung cancer is 6 times higher among smokers than non-smokers. The cigarette is so pernicious because of the substances it contains nicotine, acids and oxides of carbon and tar.

Also, alcohol is a direct cause of seven forms of cancer. So, yes, there are tough words to swallow, but those are the conclusions of researchers from New Zealand; who say they found that no matter how much you drink, alcohol will increase your risk of cancer.

A study published in the scientific journal Addiction, said that there are a causal association of alcohol consumption and cancers of the oropharynx; larynx, esophagus, liver, colon, rectum, and female breast. Jennie Connor, from the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, University of Otago, said that based on current evidence; there is no safe level of drinking; with respect to cancer though the risks are lower for some cancers when people stop drinking.

 #3- Radiation

Ionizing radiation is one of the most recognized causal factors. Radiation produces changes in DNA, such as breaks or chromosomal transpositions in which broken strands of two chromosomes can be interchanged. Radiation acts as an initiator of carcinogenesis, inducing alterations that progress to cancer after a latency period of several years. The sun’s ultraviolet rays and x-rays increase the propensity to get skin cancer and leukemia. Excessive exposure to sunlight by people with white skin increases the risk.

#4- Infections or viruses

There is increasing evidence that some infections can lead to cancer, and especially those related to cancers of the stomach, liver, cervix and Kaposi’s sarcoma (a special type of cancer that appears in AIDS patients). Helicobacter pylori bacteria have been linked to stomach cancer. Different studies show that people infected with this bacteria are four times more likely to develop this type of cancer.

Viruses causes cancer in animals. In humans, Epstein-Barr virus is associated with Burkitt’s lymphoma and lymphoma epitheliomas, hepatitis virus with hepatocarcinoma, and herpesvirus type II or genital herpes virus with carcinoma of the cervix. All these viruses associated with human tumors are of the DNA type. The HTLV virus, however, is of the RNA type, or retrovirus, as most of the virus associated with tumors in animals. It produces human leukemia.

In the presence of an enzyme called reverse transcriptase; it induces the infect cell to produce DNA copies of the virus genes, which in this way are add into the cellular genome. These RNA viruses contain a gene that is call a viral oncogene; capable of transforming normal cells into malignant cells. Research has shown that viral oncogenes have a counterpart in normal human cells; it is the proto-oncogene, or cellular oncogene. The products of oncogenes (the proteins they produce) are growth factors (or proteins necessary for the action of such growth factors); which stimulate the growth of tumor cells.

Chemotherapy warning as hundreds die from cancer-fighting drugs

Patients should be warned about the dangers of chemotherapy after research published in The Lancet Oncology showed that cancer drugs are killing up to 50 per cent of patients in some hospitals.

For the first time researchers looked at the numbers of cancer patients who died within 30 days of starting chemotherapy, which indicates that the medication is the cause of death, rather than the cancer.

The study by Public Health England and Cancer Research UK found that across England around 8.4 per cent of patients with lung cancer, and 2.4 per cent of breast cancer patients died within a month.

But in some hospitals the figure was far higher. In Milton Keynes University Hospital, the death rate for lung cancer treatment was 50.9 per cent, although it was based on a very small number of patients. At Lancashire Teaching Hospitals the 30 day mortality rate was 28 per cent for palliative chemotherapy for lung cancer, which is given when a cure is not expected and treatment given to alleviate symptoms.  

Deaths of lung cancer patients from chemotherapy were also far higher than the national average in Blackpool, Coventry, Derby, South Tyneside and Surrey and Sussex, according to the research.

Similarly, around one in five people who underwent palliative care for breast cancer at Cambridge University Hospitals died from their treatment. Public Health England (PHE), said it had contacted the hospitals concerned to ask them to review practices.

“Those hospitals whose death rates are outside the expected range have had the findings shared with them and we have asked them to review their practice and data.”

The study looked at more than 23,000 women with breast cancer and nearly 10,000 men with 9634 non-small cell lung cancer who underwent chemotherapy in 2014. Of those treated 1,383 died within 30 days.

The researchers also found that there were significant differences in survival for older people and those in poorer health. They advised doctors to be more careful in selecting patients for treatment where it could do more harm than good.

“The statistics don’t suggest bad practice overall but there are some outliers,” said Professor David Dodwell, Institute of Oncology, St James Hospital, Leeds, UK. He also said that “It could be data problems, and figures skewed because of just a few deaths, but nevertheless it could also be down to problems with clinical practice.”

Professor David Cameron, Edinburgh Cancer Centre, Western General Hospital, Edinburgh, Scotland, added: “The concern is that some of the patients dying within 30 days of being given chemo probably shouldn’t have been given the chemo. But, how many? There is no easy way to answer that, but perhaps looking at those places/hospitals where the death rate was higher might help.

“Furthermore, if we give less chemo then some patients will die because they didn’t get chemo. It’s a fine balance and the more data we have the better we can be at making sure we get the balance right.”

Professor Peter Johnson, Cancer Research UK’s chief clinician, said: “Chemotherapy is an important part of treatment for many people with cancer. Having information about how well it is being delivered is vitally important to patients and to the health service.”

All the hospitals named said they had since reviewed the cases and were satisfied that chemotherapy prescribing was safe.
